What this tool does

It computes. Given a set of figures and a tax year, it applies published rates and thresholds and reports what falls out: income tax by band, National Insurance, student loan repayments, the personal allowance and how much of it survives, and the rate on the next pound.

What it does not do

It does not tell you what to do. It does not select a contribution, name a provider, a product or a fund, or express a view on the merits of any investment. Every figure it shows is downstream of a number you entered and can change.
